Having graduated from Temple University in 1976 with a degree in psychology , the ice cream business wasn ’ t Vince ’ s industry of choice , but that is exactly where J . P . Licks ’ journey began . The self-confessed ‘ oddball ’ had already been a Boy Scout , plumber ’ s assistant , ditch digger , short order cook , and Santa Claus before even graduating , however , Vince ’ s first post-graduate job was as a dishwasher at Hillary ’ s Homemade Ice

Cream , a small store next door to his home in Philadelphia . Despite his intention to only remain at the shop temporarily , Vince soon worked his way into being an ice cream maker and , eventually , the manager of the store . This experience inspired Vince to learn more about the operations of a restaurant , which he grasped working as a manager in a Wendy ’ s . Soon after , Vince took the plunge and the first J . P . Licks was born .
