How Schuman Cheese developed into an award-winning artisanal cheese producer on a global scale
Arthur Schuman , along with his sons Jerome and Howard , founded Schuman Cheese in 1945 in New York . The company initially began importing cheeses from South America and also formed a relationship with renowned cheese maker Zanetti , a partnership that remains strong to this day . By the 1950s , Arthur Schuman was appointed President of the Cheese Importers Association of America . Soon after , the company was designated as the exclusive agent for Roquefort cheese , rapidly expanding its portfolio of the highest quality cheeses from around the world . Over the subsequent decades , the company continued to grow and solidify its reputation . This period saw the acquisition of several complementary businesses , including Robin Packing , and , after the launch of an office in Poland , Polser . During this era , the company also opened its current headquarters , which includes its main offices and manufacturing plant in Fairfield , New Jersey .
