Convenience is table stakes

The new QSR battleground is store experience

Competition for share of stomach is no longer won on food alone. It’ s won in the moments between order click, pickup and handoff. Menu quality still matters, but digital ordering systems, loyalty programs and ondemand expectations have fundamentally changed how consumers engage with quick-service restaurants. What was once a straightforward process is now a multi-touch journey where customers expect speed, relevance and consistency from app to drive-thru to counter.

Nearly 75 percent of restaurant traffic now happens off-premises— meaning customers take the majority of orders to go— according to the National Restaurant Association’ s 2025 Off-Premises Restaurant Trends report. For QSRs, that shift shows up operationally in longer drive-thru lines, crowded pickup shelves and fewer opportunities to influence the customer experience once orders are placed.
With takeout, delivery and drive-thru becoming defaults— and even traditional grocers expanding their ready-to-go offerings— physical QSR locations must do more than process orders. Success depends on creating seamless experiences and having the right technology in place to connect digital intent with what customers see and do in store.
