Energy and environmental efficiency
In 2023 , Greenfood made a substantial investment in a modern banana ripening facility . A testament to its commitment to quality , this plant ensures the delivery of perfectly ripe , top-quality bananas all year long . Integrated within the company ’ s main facility in Helsingborg , the factory boasts 12 banana rooms , each towering nine meters high . This remarkable setup empowers Greenfood to ripen an impressive 33,000 boxes of bananas per week . A one-of-a-kind innovation , the banana ripening plant is designed to lead the way in energy and environmental efficiency , with modern technology such as sensors that automatically monitor and manage the ripening process . After being transported by boat across the Atlantic , the bananas undergo full ripening in hermetically sealed rooms where temperature , airflow , and oxygen content are carefully measured . The facility can control the temperature with an accuracy of 0.1 degrees and is equipped with fans able to reverse the airflow within the ripening rooms . The result is sustainably and evenly ripened bananas of higher quality , as well as an extended shelf life throughout the supply chain .
